State Awards
R.E.A.D. (Read, Enjoy, Analyze, Discuss) for NENE is an enrichment activity designed to promote reading and discussion of literature suitable for grades 4 to 6. Participating students are encouraged to read the books and discuss them with other students and classes from across the state, and then vote for their favorite. Books featured are taken from the Nene Award Recommended Reading List. The annual Nene Award is supported by the Hawaii State Department of Education and the Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS).
State Interest
State interest lists include state history, geography, Native American tribes of the area, state commerce, natural resources and state government or political information. Also included are stories set in the state, biographies of famous people and major city descriptions from the state.
State Authors
State Author Lists include books written by an author that currently lives in the state, was born in the state or lived in the state for a length of time.
